It’s Time to Get Serious About Radical Islam

In 2010, the Obama Administration banned the term "Islamic Extremism" from the central document outlining American national security strategy. This decision may explain why the F.B.I. failed to monitor the Boston bomber, even after receiving a tip that he was radicalized. If they had followed up after he returned from Russia, the Boston Marathon plot probably would not have materialized.

While the American people instinctively know the good guys from the bad guys, our elected officials are often clueless. In the aftermath of the terrorist attack in Boston, Congressman Peter King declared that political correctness is preventing us from dealing with Islamic Extremism. Congressman King pointed out that since 9/11, there have been 16 attempted terrorist attacks against the American people, all Islamist-based.

Can we stop all future attacks? No, but if our policymakers stop placating the enemy, we will be more successful than we have been.

While we see the F.B.I. as a force for good, we oppose the decade-old program of giving Special Agents "sensitivity training" on how to deal with Muslims. The American people need to learn the failings of our current policies and to take action to correct them.

By focusing attention on the failures that led to the Boston attacks, several members of Congress have asked the F.B.I. to explain its failure to monitor the activity of the bomber. If the FBI had taken radicalization as the threat that it is, it would have witnessed the bombers transformation of his wife from an All American girl to a Muslim garbed recluse from normal society.
If the bomber changed his wife, why are we surprised that he recruited his younger brother?
Getting serious about radical Islam means passing along information, communicating with your elected officials, and voting the right way.
