Dear Friends,

Each year, wild breeding pairs of the endangered Yellow-shouldered Amazon have their chicks stolen from them. You can help stop this tragedy and protect the one-third of fledglings who are taken by poachers and secure the species' future. But the poaching season is upon us, and time is short. Please, act now to save these rare parrots!
Bubba and Forrest
Right now across Bonaire, chicks have hatched in their nests, and in the next few weeks, poachers will begin taking them illegally. Poaching can be so intense that, as we have seen during our observations over the last seven years, parrot pairs that have consistently hatched chicks each breeding season have never seen a single one of their offspring fledge. Some poachers are even so blatant that they build ladders or create rock piles so they can return each year to poach more chicks!

You can help save wild parrot chicks from poachers and give them the chance to fledge in the wild – not in a cage.

With your support Echo will:
  • Remove the "infrastructure" that poachers leave at nests, making it harder for them to steal chicks
  • Monitor nests in person and with motion-sensing cameras to catch poachers
  • Work with the authorities to enforce the Yellow-shouldered Amazon’s protected status
Because of your support and that of others just like you, over the past two years Echo has returned 54 illegally captured parrots and 88 parakeets to the wild through our rehabilitation and release program. Though this program is successful, preventing the poaching incidents that cause these intensive rehabilitation emergencies in the first place is a far better alternative for the parrots. Ensuring that these birds are kept out of the hands of poachers also frees the conservation team to focus their efforts on doing important work to save parrots.

You can help prevent poaching and make it possible for this year's chicks to fledge in the wild where they belong. Please, donate now so we can get ahead of the poachers and save these incredible animals.

Please help us save this year's chicks!
Sam Williams
