LEGISLATIVE ACTION ALERT

THE U.S. CONGRESS IS NOW ON AUGUST RECESS

TAKE SOME TIME TODAY TO CONNECT WITH
YOUR REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS
WHILE THEY ARE HOME

It’s officially August recess in the U.S. Congress and your Representatives and Senators are back home until after Labor Day. This is a great time for you to connect with those who represent you in Washington—to introduce yourself as member of ACT! For America and let them know that national security issues are a concern to voters in their districts.

We often hear from members of Congress that they don’t hear from voters on national security issues. That’s why it’s most important that they hear from you, their constituent!

Please take the time to call and write your elected representatives this month and ask them to support the following high priority pieces of legislation that we’re featuring this month:

• H.R. 5107 Fuel Choice for American Prosperity and Security Act

Authored by Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-27)

It is sad but true that we are funding both sides in the war on terrorism due to our dependence on foreign oil. OPEC’s petrodollars are the source for much of the world’s terror financing. This legislation would make an important step toward ending that by lowering fuel economy requirements for automakers that produce vehicles that are open to fuel competition. The “Open Fuel Standard” would help break OPEC’s stranglehold over the global transportation fuel market by enabling the use of fuels made from resources such as natural gas, coal and biomass.

We have written a sample call and e-mail script for you, to make this as easy as possible. (NOTE: The e-mail script is modifiable if you wish to convey the message in your own words. We ask that you please be respectful at all times.)

• H.R. 4223 The International Conflicts of Concern Act
Authored by Rep. Frank Wolf (VA-10)

This legislation is aimed at preventing Americans from traveling to join terrorist groups in countries like Syria by restricting unsanctioned travel to countries where Foreign Terrorist Organizations are active in fighting. The bill would also prohibit material support to groups in such war-torn countries. This bill is needed due to the fact that at least two-dozen Americans are known to have traveled to join ISIS—and some of them may have also already returned here to the U.S.

We have written a sample call and e-mail script for you, to make this as easy as possible. (NOTE: The e-mail script is modifiable if you wish to convey the message in your own words. We ask that you please be respectful at all times.)

Please call and write your representatives in Congress and ask them to support these bills and to sign on as a co-sponsor.

Thank you for all you do to help combat threats to our national security. Your actions make a difference. As part of our 287,000-strong grassroots network, you are the heart and soul that make our organization effective.
