While the United States tries to build a coalition of Arab allies to
join the fight against the terrorist group ISIS, now known as the Islamic
State, one group which stands to benefit directly is coming out against
Western intervention and expressing unity with other radical jihadists.
A Syrian Muslim Brotherhood spokesman says attacks on the Islamic
State by the United States and its allies are not the answer.
The simple answer – and the one you'll hear most often – is that IS,
or Islamic State (formerly ISIS) emerged out of al-Qaida, gathering
strength through the ongoing civil war in Syria and unrest in Iraq.
But that's only part of the story: the rest is based in Europe (and
even in America), where governments have continually – if unwittingly –
financed programs that breed radicalization in Muslim communities there.
Now, more and more of those radical Muslims, most born and bred in the
West, are joining IS and its jihad; and in their efforts to prevent it,
Europe's leaders in particular may in fact be strengthening the threat.
IPT in the News
Judge Jeanine Pirro: The week 19-year-od Shannon Conley pled
guilty to offering to assist extremists in Syria. What's the attraction?
With me Investigative Project founder Steve Emerson. Good evening Steve.
What is the attraction for young American women to get involved in this
kind of extremist terrorism?
Judge Jeanine: And with me now the founder of the Investigative
Project, Steve Emerson. All right Steve, ISIS claims to have beheaded this
British hostage. Your reaction tonight.
Host- Ed Berliner: It remains unthinkable to most of us, young
people, some from tough conditions, but also those who would seem to have
everything they need to succeed. In one moment they are teenagers, young
people, smiling faces, getting into the kind of trouble maybe kids have
been stuck in for generations. The next minute they are holding rifles,
flashing missing teeth smiles and wearing robes of subjugation promising
they will kill Americans because they are the enemy of those who kill for
little reason. Not merely why this happens, but what can we do to ferret
out these misguided souls before they carry out their brainwashed ideals.
Let's welcome to Mid-point senior analyst and investigative journalist with
the Investigative Project on Terrorism. He can be read at such diverse
places as The Daily Caller and Red Alert Politics, John Rossomando joins
us. John, thank you so much for being here.
