A security source from Salahaddin Province has revealed that high-ranking members of Islamic State (IS) in Tikrit have wives working for the Iraqi government, drawing a monthly salary as normal.

In an exclusive statement to BasNews, the anonymous source said, “Most of the current IS leaders in Salahaddin Province reside in the Awenati village in southern Tikrit city, and joined the jihadists after IS militants deployed in the area.

“These people were hidden affiliates of IS. They were continuously preparing suicide attacks. Most of their targets were Iraqi security establishments.

“The wives of some of these IS leaders work for the Iraqi government. They are still getting their monthly salary from Baghdad,” said the source.

He continued, “These criminals murder people and carry out suicides attack in the country and the Iraqi government pays their wives a regular salary.”

The source revealed the names of the senior IS militants whose wives are government employees, “There are three brothers that IS have given the rank of Emir [leader]. One of them is Karim Assi Ahmed Kazim, who now lives in the town of Dora. His wife works at the Tikrit Municipality and draws a regular wage from the Iraqi government.”

“The other Emir is Nassir Assi Ahmed Kazim, sought by Iraqi security since 2004, accused of having a part in a suicide attack. He fled to Syria and returned to Tikrit in August 2014 when IS took control of the area. His wife is a teacher in a secondary school in Tikrit and receives her monthly salary from Baghdad,” added the source.

Commenting on the third brother, he said, “His name is Abbas Assi Ahmed Kazim. His wife works as an accountant in one of the infrastructure directorates and the Iraqi government pays her every month.”

He also spoke about an IS accountant in Salahadin Province, Lais Emad Ahmed Khuzaira. His wife is not a government employee but his mother is a teacher, and she too continues to be paid by the government.

Finally, the source revealed, “There is another IS leader called Sami Dawud and his wife is a teacher on a government salary.”
