ANKARA – The Islamic State (IS) have released the latest of their slick video messages, this time in Turkish, warning the people of Turkey that they must abandon secularism and rise up against “atheists, crusaders and devils who fool them and make them a slave of the crusaders.”

The militant labels President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as Satan, who has sold the country to the West, and rails against Ankara’s decision to join the US-led coalition against IS.

Turks must, he says, take up arms against Turkey in the name of IS, and disavow democracy, secularism and human rights in favour of Sharia.

“Those who believe fight for the way of God, while disbelievers fight on the side of Satan,” says the man identified in Turkish media as an Emir who joined the jihadist group in 2014.

Turkey formally launched a campaign against the both IS and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on July 24th, and around 1,600 suspected terrorists have been arrested since.

Whilst Turkey claims to have killed over 400 PKK militants in the campaign, very few bombing sorties have targeted IS positions in Syria.
