UANI Applauds Senator Robert Menendez for Taking Principled Stand Against Iran Deal

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 19, 2015 Phone: (212) 922-0063 press@uani.com UANI Applauds Senator Robert Menendez for Taking Principled Stand Against Iran Deal New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) today applauded New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez for his meticulous analysis of and principled opposition to the Iran nuclear agreement, formally called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Yesterday, Menendez became the second Democratic senator to announce he will vote against the JCPOA, joining Chuck Schumer of New York. UANI CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace issued the following statement: We thank Senator Menendez for explaining to the American people why, after careful analysis, he concluded that the Iran nuclear deal falls far short of its goals, and therefore, he would be unable to support it. Senator Menendez has long been a leader in confronting the Iranian nuclear threat, both as chairman and ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Americans across the political spectrum want elected officials to rise above partisanship and do what they think is best for our country--and Senator Menendez has done that. For voting his conscience, Senator Menendez is now being maligned by certain activist groups as a "warmonger." As Senator Menendez reminded the audience in his speech, "I did not vote for the war in Iraq, I opposed it, unlike the Vice President and the Secretary of State, who both supported it." These personal attacks have no place in proper political discourse, but they speak volumes about the tactics certain supporters of this deeply flawed Iran deal are willing to resort to in order to silence honest debate. Last week, UANI launched a Times Square video billboard thanking New York Senator Chuck Schumer for his principled opposition to the Iran nuclear agreement.
