Awareness Alert: Open Eyes Save Lives

Important Awareness Alert
#OpenEyesSaveLives

This is the second alert of our #OpenEyesSaveLives campaign. We hope that it, and further information we’ll provide, will be helpful to you through the holiday season and beyond.
The Department of Homeland Security activated its new National Terrorism Advisory System for the first time Wednesday, warning the public of "self-radicalized actors who could strike with little or no notice."
The Department of Homeland Security is "especially concerned that terrorist-inspired individuals and homegrown violent extremists may be encouraged or inspired to target public events or places”.
"As we saw in the recent attacks in San Bernardino and Paris, terrorists will consider a diverse and wide selection of targets for attacks,'' the DHS said.
That is why ACT for America, the nation’s largest national security-focused grassroots advocacy organization, has unveiled our #OpenEyesSaveLives campaign.
In this #OpenEyesSaveLives alert, we wanted to focus on surveillance, suspicious terrorist activity, and what you can do about it.
It's a fact that certain kinds of activities can indicate terrorist plans that are in the works. This is especially true when the activities occur at or near high profile sites or places where large numbers of people gather—like government buildings, military facilities, utilities, bus or train stations, major public events. If you see or know about suspicious activities, like the ones listed below, please report them immediately to the proper authorities.

Surveillance Tips
Be aware of the following surveillance tips on possible terrorist activity:

  • Anyone taking photos, video recording or monitoring activities, taking notes, using cameras, maps, binoculars, etc., near key facilities/events
  • Anyone attempting to gain information in person, by phone, mail, email, etc., regarding a key facility from people who work there
  • Any attempts to penetrate or test physical security or procedures at a key facility/event
  • Anyone attempting to improperly acquire explosives, weapons, ammunition, dangerous chemicals, uniforms, badges, flight manuals, access cards or identification for a key facility/event or to legally obtain items under suspicious circumstances that could be used in a terrorist attack
  • Anyone who does not appear to belong in the workplace, neighborhood, business establishment, or near a key facility/event
  • Any behavior that appears to be preparation for a terrorist act, such as mapping out routes, playing out scenarios with other people, monitoring key facilities/events, timing traffic lights or traffic flow, or other suspicious activities also known as “Dry Runs
  • Abandoned vehicles, stockpiling of suspicious materials, or persons being deployed near a key facility/event
If you see or notice any of these or additional suspicious activities, please contact the local authorities immediately. Remember, you can do so anonymously.
Federal investigators believe the San Bernardino terrorists Farook and Malik were radicalized years before launching their attacks earlier this month. This is another reason why we must remain vigilant and aware of all suspicious activity. We need you. America needs you. Be the eyes and ears America needs to help keep our country safe. YOU can be the difference.
