CIJA: “Canada is not immune of Islamist terror attacks afflicting our European allies”

The Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for the terror attack in Nice, France committed by Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, who drove a truck in crowds celebrating the Bastille Day killing 84 and injuring more than 200, dozens in critical condition.
Amaq, a news agency affiliated with ISIS, stated: “The person who carried out the operation in Nice, France, to run down people was one of the soldiers of Islamic State.”
Condemning the terrorist attack in Nice, Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, stressed (July 14, 2016) “these senseless acts like this one are not isolated events.
David J. Cape, Chair of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), the advocacy agency of the Jewish Federations of Canada, warned that “Canada is not immune to the devastating series of Islamist terror attacks afflicting our European allies, whether carried out by foreign terrorists or radicalized European citizens.”
Cape urged the Canadian government to “take all necessary measures to protect Canadians from such threats” reminding that Canada has been already the target of terrorist attacks including an assault using a vehicle to murder a Canadian soldier.
“That the Nice attacker was educated and socialized in France underscores the need for all Western governments to institute robust, counter-radicalization efforts,” Cape added.
